To the Editor:

As the Town of Liberty’s Planning Board continues to review several proposed major subdivisions—specifically in the hamlet of White Sulphur Springs—the future of whether or not this and other small communities in Sullivan County will be able to preserve its rural lifestyle and natural beauty is at stake.

Many residents have expressed their concerns about these proposed developments and have identified significant environmental issues that need to be fully studied and addressed by the Planning Board. It is now up to the members of the Board to see that the laws governing their review process are fully complied with in a fair and responsible manner.

With so many significant environmental issues, the Board is required by law to undertake a full review of the issues and make its preliminary determination so that the necessary full impact review can move forward, as we believe the law requires. When this is complete, and not before, should the County Division of Planning and Community Development get involved in the review.
