![]() Commending Planning Board Chair
Sullivan County Democrat: October 10, 2006 To the Editor: In response to the article entitled "Cochecton Development Seeing Fireworks," (October 3) I would like to commend Planning Board Chairwoman Sharron Cardone for her leadership at the September 28 meeting on the 'New Turnpike Homes' subdivision proposal for acknowledging the significance of the project and the need for a careful and thorough review of its impacts consistent with law. Ms. Cardone properly commented that the review was only at the beginning and would be a lengthy one. At the meeting, Town residents informed the Board of how this sizable and substantial project would permanently affect the rural character of Cochecton by bringing a large suburban subdivision that will, amongst other things, increase traffic on inadequate country roads, increase taxes, change the bucolic setting of the Town and potentially impact the drinking water for neighbors. These important concerns are required to be addressed by law, and we look forward to working with the Planning Board to ensure that all of the fair, open and thorough review requirements are met.
