![]() Sullivan County Democrat To The Editor: The demise of the Catskill Homes Development on New Turnpike Road is a cause for celebration by Cochecton residents. Mr. Savad's acknowledgement of the community opposition to this misguided project was gratifying and validated the efforts of Keep Cochecton Rural (KCR) in identifying the issues, monitoring the project and alerting the community to the risks posed by this project. However, it may also be fair to say that the "lay of the land" and the costs of adhering to the government regulations and environmental requirements made the development far less attractive for real estate speculation. On one point we do agree with Mr. Savad-the need to clarify the zoning laws so that it is clear to all parties what Cochecton residents will accept as reasonable development. It is KCR's position that any development in Cochecton must respect the current density of the surrounding community and be appropriately located. KCR hopes to continue to work with the Town Board and the Planning Board to achieve these ends. Finally, the members of KCR appreciate the Democrat's coverage of this very important issue.
